WORLD WAR TWO IN ONE SEVENTY-TWO
Why 1/72 WW2?

When you are born in 1957, you grow up with World War Two. Parents and grandparents talk about it, and there are the films, books, comics..and of course Airfix kits.
Many years later it's still my favourite period for churning out wargames models. Despite occasional dabbling in other scales, I've generally stuck to good old 20mm or 1/72
Airfix established 1/76 or OO/HO as the defining scale for wargames vehicle models,Many resin and metal manufacturers followed this approach Gradually there was a push up to 1/72, and eventually I went with the flow so as not to miss out on the handy quick build kits from Plastic Soldier Company and Armourfast, and the occasional diecast. The difference in scales doesn't sound much, but it shows when you put two identical tanks of each scale side by side.
We are most definitely talking about wargames models, so I don't add radio ariels or grab handles and other delicate bits.. And I don't have an airbrush so it's all ye olde paintbrush.

I still find a use for old Airfix Shermans......
